Proven Work Diet & Exercise...

When it comes to diet and exercise, do you think your metabolism has one up on you? After all, your metabolism has the final say in how many calories you get burned, and its inner workings are essentially pretty mysterious. You feel like you're doing everything you can to lose weight, and still your pants aren't getting any looser, so what gives? If you think that your metabolism is playing a little trick on you, holding on to that weight you want so desperately to get rid of, it's time to fight back. These sneaky little tricks will get your metabolism working harder, and you'll barely even notice them in your daily schedule. What you will notice, however, is that the scale is finally going down and you have gotten the upper hand in your battle with your metabolism.

The first trick couldn't be easier. If you're on a diet, then surely you are drinking lots of water already. After all, diet experts recommend getting at least 64 ounces a day when you're trying to shed pounds (and if you're not getting that, then start by adding water to your plan, because nothing shuts down a metabolism like dehydration). But, assuming you're already drinking that water, here's your first simple, sneaky little trick - add ice. Yep, that's right, adding ice to the water you are already drinking could increase your metabolism by as much as 30%! Getting an extra 30% calorie burning for some ice cubes is a pretty amazing way to get a handle on your metabolism. This works because your body has to work hard to warm up after that big injection of cold. Keep it frosty and watch the pounds melt away.

Sneaky tip number two involves getting spicy. Since you're already drinking all of that ice water anyway, why not add a little heat to your food? Crushed red peppers and hot sauce raise your body temperature in such a way that your metabolism has to work to get things cooled down. Don't worry about your ice water and hot peppers cancelling each other out. Hitting your body with one after the other again and again will only get things cooking more.

Tip 1 Some of your metabolic characteristics are predetermined, as is your body type to a certain extent, but you can control the vast majority of it through the choices you make in your lifestyle. Don't sit back and throw in the towel because you think that it is just in the cards for you to be overweight. That's an excuse. Some people may find it hard than others to lose weight, but everyone CAN drop the pounds. You just have to want it enough.

Tip 2 When your metabolism needs a wake up call, look to your exercise plan to get it back into gear. With a manageable amount of physical activity, you can see big rewards on the scale.

Tip 3 Complex carbs, like whole grain bread and pasta, and especially fruits and vegetables, give your metabolism a steady boost because your body has to work to break them down. Protein is less effective than carbs in speeding up your metabolism, but it helps build muscle, which in turn revs your metabolism.

Tip 4 When it comes to losing weight, stop skipping meals and start eating foods that make your metabolism work. You'll see the results on your scale.

Tip 5 Your metabolism is the energy source for your body. It decides what calories get portioned out to run your body's systems and which calories get stored as fat for a later time.

Tip 6 If those serious gym workouts aren't for you, don't give up on exercise completely. Look for ways to inject fun into your exercise routines and reap all of the metabolic rewards.

Tip 7 A slowing metabolism is part of the aging process, and when you pass 30, your metabolism can slow down considerably. Your response to this change makes all of the difference in the world. Eat right and exercise, and you can keep your youthful metabolism for as long as you want.

Tip 8 Most people think that having a super fast metabolism would be a dream come true. They think that with a fast metabolism, they could eat anything they wanted and never gain a pound. To a certain extent, they're right. If your metabolism is working overtime, then you can consume more calories without gaining weight. However, the ability to do so comes at a high price. A very fast metabolism is associated with many health conditions, some life threatening.

Tip 9 The easiest, and cheapest, way to figure out your metabolic rate is to go online. There are many websites that have a feature called "basal metabolic calculator" that allows you to find out how many calories your metabolism is burning up every day while you're at rest.

Tip 10 To boost your metabolism in the gym you have to do more strength training as increased muscle mass means a higher metabolism.

Tip 11 A very important way to make sure you keep your metabolism working on high is to make sure you get enough sleep.

Tip 12 If you are stressed out, not getting enough sleep, not eating a healthy diet or not eating regularly, not exercising, and spend your day sitting behind a computer, your metabolism likely thinks it is on some kind of extended vacation.

Tip 13 First and foremost, if you want a fast metabolism, you have to give it the fuel it needs. In other words, you need to eat. If you don't eat at regular intervals, your metabolism will go into survival mode and will start keeping all of the calories you eat as fat in case you don't feed it in the future.

Tip 14 Every bit of muscle you have in your body increases the caloric burning capacity of your metabolism. Add enough muscle and you will find that you will lose weight faster even though you

Tip 15 Everyone knows that a fast metabolism leads to fast weight loss. But stress, poor eating habits, a busy lifestyle, lack of exercise and age all come together to drag that metabolism down and helping you to pack on your pounds.
