Impotence Psychology

Impotence affects a higher percentage of men than you think, figures show that 50% of men aged between 30 and 50 years of age have some form of difficulty getting or holding on to an erection. The reason you would not know the figures are this high is, because a lot of men who suffer with Impotence do so in silence.

Impotence normally starts through physical means but the psychological affects can make the problem last a lot longer. For men this is a difficult issue to talk about, it can make them feel depressed or angry, some feel it makes them less of a man.

Because men with impotence tend to suffer in silence it can cause strains on relationships, many sexually functioning partners do not know why their sex life has declined and start feeling rejected and tensions tend to rise. If the male affected chooses not to talk through the issue with his partner the tension turns to anger or guilt which makes it even more difficult to perform when sexual moments occur.

Reasons for psychological issues

Psychological impotence can be caused by many reasons, below is a list of the main issues.

Depression - Depression reduces sexual desire and can cause erectile issues; this normally comes in the form of maintaining a strong erection as chemicals released by the brain restrict the blood flow.

Anxiety - This is one of the most frequently diagnosed reasons for impotence, normally the reasons come down to concerns over sexual performance or concerns over the size or look of a persons penis when erect.

Stress - In this day and age we all suffer with some level of stress, if stress levels are to high it can cause a loss of sexual desire or problems maintaining an erection. Stresses at work, home finances and marital issues are the main cause of high stress levels that cause psychological impotence.

Fatigue - physical and mental energy can drain because of fatigue. Due to lack of energy you may experience issues gaining an erection, this is normally only a temporary problem .If fatigue becomes an ongoing issue there may be an underlying medical illness.

Take action to resolve your issues

Impotence should not take over your life; if you are suffering with impotence then taking action can help you to resolve the issues you have. If you can learn to live with impotence you may find your own confidence will grow and your anxiety and depression will slowly fade.

If you are suffering with impotence and it is causing tensions with your partner, the best course of action would be to talk through your problems. You may find talking to your partner about your issues will give them a better understanding, alleviate tensions in the relationship and may help reduce your own anxiety.

You may benefit from seeking medical advice, try not to feel embarrassed about your issues, you are not alone as many males suffer with impotence. Medically trained staffs have a great knowledge in the psychological effects of impotence and will be able to guide you into building your own self-confidence.
