The Symptoms Of Lupus

One of the problems with lupus and its subsequent diagnosis is that for many the symptoms are not easily recognizable as those of a particular disease. Each person’s symptoms vary and within those variations are those whose symptoms are mild or others who may suffer harshly. One of the main symptoms of lupus is the rash. It is a red rash often seen on the nose and cheeks. But it can occur in other places like on the arms, shoulders, hands, other places on the face or on the shoulders. These rashes will get worse when the person is out in the sun. This is especially true because those who are suffering from lupus will very often also find they become very sensitive to being out in the sun.
A person may have many other symptoms. It is not uncommon to have several or all of them. They might find that they have swollen joints. These can be very painful as can the muscle pain they may start suffering from. A person may feel tired all the time. This could be due to anemia, which can be caused by low iron in the blood. The patient may discover sores in their mouths. These are called mouth ulcers and they too can be very uncomfortable. The glands may be swollen; there could be unexplained hair loss or fever. As well, it is possible that the person may notice that their fingers and toes turn purple in the cold. There are other more uncommon symptoms like depression, headaches, seizures and dizziness.
Lupus is a disease that lasts for the rest of a person’s life though the patient will not have symptoms all the time. There are periods of remission when there will be no symptoms at all. But, because of these it will be possible for other symptoms to occur during flare-ups of the disease.
Lupus can also affect a person’s organs. The kidney’s can suffer from inflammation. This problem may not come out in any symptoms at all, no pain may be felt or there can be blood in the urine. If a person notices blood they should see their health care provider immediately. If the lupus has affected a person’s kidneys it is necessary for them to have some intensive drug therapy to prevent permanent damage. The lungs may also suffer. A person can develop pneumonia or have the lining of the lungs become inflamed and this can cause pain and difficulty breathing. The heart can also be affected or the surrounding tissue can have similar inflammation. This can give the patient chest pains. Lupus can also speeds up hardening of the arteries.
Even a person’s blood can be affected. Lupus can cause diminished white blood cells, leucopenia, or as diminishing of the platelets which makes the blood have difficulty clotting properly. Others claim to have the blood clot too easily which can also dangerous. If a person thinks they have a few of these symptoms they should see their doctor for a thorough check-up.
