Dont Believe The Smoking Myths; Quit Now
There is so much misinformation about cigarettes and quitting smoking that it makes it more difficult for those who want to quit smoking to be able to follow through on this desire. They hear so many things that discourage them that too many times they believe that once hooked either they cannot do it or there is no good reason to try. Dispelling these myths is an important step towards being able to quit.
For those who think that smoking is not more than a bad habit they should understand that in reality it is an addiction and a very real problem for those who smoke. Being addicted to cigarettes is no different than being a heroin addict or an alcoholic. Your body learns to need the nicotine and it learns this very quickly. That is what makes quitting so difficult; difficult but not impossible. Those who believe that if they fail the first time they will not be able to quit are very wrong. For many it takes more than once to shake the smoking habit. Do not listen to old wives tales that say you only get one chance. If you want to quit work on it until you are successful.
Some people will say that they cannot afford to quit. They claim that the nicotine replacement treatment plans are way too expensive. They can cost three or four dollars daily. Depending on how much they smoke this is no more, and might be less, than they spend on their smoking habit. It is a trade off and in the end the smoker will save money. Once they are a non-smoker every day they are saving money.
Many people seem to be under the impression that only men are able to quit smoking. This is ridiculous. In fact, presently women are quitting smoking much more frequently than their male counterparts. Due to this, and a few other factors, there are fewer women smokers than men. One thing that is definitely not a myth is that fertility is compromised by smoking. Few women conceive and even those who turn to fertility clinics have a diminished success rate. So, if children are in your future then smoking should not be.
Men who smoke would like to believe that smoking has no effect on the ability to function properly in the bedroom. This is a myth; impotence has been tied to smoking for many years. Erectile dysfunction is known to be a smoker’s issue. This is because smoking affects all parts of the body and damages all areas. This does mean that if a man stops smoking he could find a return to his earlier abilities, but not always. Someone who has smoked long enough to have done damage may find here is no way to improve the situation.
Even in this day and age people still continue smoking because they believe the myth that it is sexy and cool looking. It is not; it yellows your teeth, stains your fingers and adds wrinkles to your face. It also makes your breath smell bad and who wants to kiss an ashtray?
