Early Evangelist Healing - Kathryn KuhlmanThroughout the years, there have been many who have claimed to have possessed the power of God when it comes to helping the sick and injured with miraculous 'faith healing'. It is a subject that has been disputed to a large degree, and many who have claimed to be spiritual healers have actually been proven to be shams, preying on the helpless in order to boost their image and their pocketbook. In this article, we'll focus on a spiritual healer that many in the world of evangelism are familiar with, Kathryn Kuhlman. Kathryn Kuhlman began her journey into spiritual healing at the tender age of fourteen, when she was born-again at the Methodist Church of Concordia. The following year, she began to preach the word of God. Her journey into the world of evangelism grew deeper in the 1930s when she met a man by the name of Burroughs A. Waltrip, an evangelist who she invited to give sermons in her church. Waltrip ended up divorcing his wife and marrying Kathryn Kuhlman, which left him without too much support from his own church, in Mason City. Many also began to flee from Kuhlman's church, who found the scandalous proceedings to be unworthy of preachers of gospel. In 1944, Kuhlman left Waltrip, and their divorce would be come finalized in the year 1948. Following her divorce, Kuhlman traveled the country preaching her own particular brand of gospel. She also began to dabble in faith healings, a subject of much controversy. As opposed to many spiritual healers who claim to have the power of God coursing through them until they touch the affected individual, Kuhlman merely placed her hand above a sick individual and claimed that the sick person would 'fall under God's power'. One of the original faith healers, Kuhlman's 'healings' have been largely dismissed as a matter of stage tricks and the misdirection of the sick persons who sought her help. Controversial televangelist Benny Hinn credited his beginnings in faith healing with visiting Kuhlman early in his life, and he was later discovered to be a fraud, relying on a radio earpiece in order to receive directions from his wife, who was backstage with a list of information about the crowd members. An in-depth look at the list of people who had been said to receive 'miracle cures' at the hands of Hinn resulted in findings that many of the individuals had actually died from the diseases that Hinn had claimed to cure. Faith healing is a controversial type of practice. Until someone is able to conclusively prove that faith healing can be of any merit to an individual's health and well-being, you are best suited to placing your trust in another form of treatment. While those who are desperate with an incurable disease may feel like they have nowhere else to turn besides faith healing, it simply is not an option that has been shown to be effective in any type of manner. Always think with your head, as opposed to your heart when it comes to receiving forms of alternative treatment.
